After tearing up my old setup and putting this one 2gether i had to reformat the hd
I have win xp pro corporate edition i've been using b4 with no problems
i first had to install win 98se then upgrade to the xp pro corp editon like b4 but now it won't load. it stays stuck after analizing settings or something like that.
I cancelled the setup, rebooted and now i get the prompt asking if i want to setup win xp pro or start microsoft windows. i click on setup win xp pro, it gets up to the analizing aagin then it just stays there without continuing.I again cancelled and started win 98se. Now the dang thing evrytime i start the pc i get this dam propmt about setup xp pro or windows regular, WTF ??
1st how do i get that prompt to stop asking me a dumb question
2nd, how can install win xp pro back into my rig without it getting stuck after it analizes?
Running 98se after i used winxp pro is the pits. I want my xp back !! somebody help ! plz plz plz

Which IDE controller are you using for your main HD? Are you setting up raid? Sounds like its not seeing the HD.

1st question - edit the boot.ini, in the root of C:, and take out the line referencing setup of XP. That will give a boot option of Windows only (win98)

2nd question - The key is "it stays stuck after analizing settings or something like that"

This could be a hardware problem, or possibly you were too impatient, and didn't wait long enough. Believe me, sometimes the wait can be so long we give up and restart the PC, but there are times when waiting is the best solution.

If it really is a hardware problem, removing all hardware but the video card, HD and ram may help to isolate which piece of hardware is the culprit. You can then, and if, after the install completes, install the other hardware.

I had the same problem with 2k and my A7V board. It will eventually error. Drivers not installed for raid or ata100 contollers.

That might be it Sid, waitng for those errors is half the battle.

Windows install tries too hard sometimes and appears to freeze when it is still trying time after time to figure out the hardware.

I find XP pro tends to hang when installing the NICS, try removing the NICS then install the OS, after you have it up and running install the NIC.

Thanx guyz
Just swapped mobos again and xp installed smooth as silk with the same hardware. Check out my thread in the computer hardware, overclocking forum. I've explained evrything in detail.
