Just a quick and I am sure easy question for you folks. When I first start Netscape or Explorer, the initial time to download any page is like 30 seconds. After that I am fine. I have done all the tweaks and everything checks out fine in the analyzer. Any Suggestions?

When you open a program, it has to load into ram from the hard drive, along with any support files like dll's etc that haven't already been loaded by another program (shared dll's) so on first opening it will take a few seconds longer.

Once opened, it just has to load the new pages which are very small files compared to intialization of IE or Netscape and those files come from a faster source as well.

That help ?

Thanks norm, but I am not sure that is what is is. When I launch either of them the hard drive grinds, the browser loads and then the computer sits and I watch the little globe spin on end. I thought at one time I read on here a similar problem that someone had, but I cannot find it. Any further help?

How much ram have you got?
How many program are running in the background?
Have you ever checked for spyware using Adaware?

Just a few thoughts, all of which could be part or all of the problem if these programs are taking an excessive amount of time to load.

I currently have 192MB of ram and the only thing running is my active sync for my pocket pc and my mouse software. I try to keep everything turned off. How would I check for spyware or such things?

Most of us use a program called Adaware

You can get a copy Here (http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10115988.html)

It will scan your system and allow you to remove any it finds.
Keep in mind that if you remove what it finds certain programs (spyware) will not work any longer.

For tons of info on spyware and the havoc it can cause a system see our security forum, there is a link at the top about spyware.

If spyware isn't the problem i may be a setting in IE. Have a look in IE Properties>connection tab>Lan settings, and make sure all boxes there are unchecked.
IE may be set to Automatically detect settings, and you don't want that, or a proxy.

You're most welcome. Glad we got it figured out :)

Watch out for future spyware, it piggybacks on a lot of freeware out there. Do a scan after every software install.
