I just got AOL Highspeed "broadband" installed.

So far it seems okay, but I am pissed off! I have to have AOL running in the background to use my Mozilla!

The only people in my house who use AOL are my mom and my sister.

Is there any sort of special background program that can login and init the cable without the HUGE footprint of AOL and having to boot it up and keep it running 24/7?

Please let me know ASAP or I will raise hell with my mom to get the real internet...

Minimize the AOHell browser and use a real internet browser seems to be the only way to use AOHell and a real browser. :)

Oh yeah, it's called "RoadRunner".

It seems Mom needs to convert to a real people internet service. :)

Yes, I have AOL minimized.

The problem is I shouldn't have to run AOL at all to use the cable modem.

Looks like I will try and convert her, but not unless I can trick my modem to logging in without AOL in the background.

Good luck, people have tried... all have failed. Something AOL didn't muff up, making people use their crap.

Hmmmmm :(

Well, from what I understand, AOL is working (or at least I HOPE) on a proxy to allow AOL connection sharing (another annoyance now in my book).

If things don't work out, I will just setup a spare PC, run AOL on it, and a proxy, and surf the net as if it were the "real" net on my main pc.

But what a PITA...

When i first installed my modem that came with my aol broadband i was already surfing the internet without aol explorer being installed..... but then i made the mistake of installing aol explorer, and straight awya it takes over, and makes sure you can't you the internet until you are signed into their crappy explorer.. so it can be done.. and if your mum still wants to use aol she can just use www.aol.com :)
