Hi all...

I have just had my ADSL line connected yesterday, and whilst I am still amazed at the new possibilities this offers me for downloads etc, I am already having my first problems.

Some info first: We have two computers connected via a hub, which itself is connected to a Speedstream 5600 series (v2.1) router. Our ADSL package is 512kbs fast, and this seems to reflect pretty well in my 50k/s download speeds that are fairly constant. Both computers are running Windows XP.

Now, my problem is that when I downloaded counter-strike to try the new connection, looking forward to being a LPB :) from now on, I realized that out of 7000 scanned and filtered servers only 10 offered pings of less than 100ms... even worse: when I DID connect to a few of those, IF it worked (and most of the time it didnt somehow, I suddenly had pings of 200-300. I tried Gamespy too, but my results were similar there. I am located in Spain, and someone told me it could be due to there not being many servers here, but CS is HUGE here and you cannot tell me that I wouldnt find at least a few hundred national servers running counter-strike.

I am a real newbie to ADSL, so I would really appreciate if someone could give me some advise here. Another thing: I just tried installing WinMX (filesharing program), and when it tries to check my internet connection it tells me that "WinMx is unable to receive incoming TCP connections from the Internet"... it tells me that I can still use the program but that I will get less results for files this way. I wonder if this could have something to do with the problems I seem to have with counter-strike.

Anyway, any help or adice would be really appreciated!
