just to let you all know, verizon has another dsl problem looming on the horizon, after being offline for 3 days and talking to 5 people, one finally admitted that their was a software conflict betwen verizon and microsoft in the winsock area. after getting a friend to d/l the fix, its called the "winsock2fix", you can find it on the web. i installed it and was able to get online with no problem. verizon claims its a microsoft problem. but who else but microsoft users use verizon Dsl. yes i pointed out the obvious to them. no dice, they said call micrisoft, if i had i would still be on hold. anyway, good luck.............

It is a MS problem with the registry files and that is why there is a fix for it that can be found on the microsoft site. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com/support/ie/ie5/topics/browse/iebrowseemts.asp

Mac and Linux and other OS users of VOL dsl services do not have that fix available to them because it is not a problem that can be fixed for them that way. For other OS users the page cannot be displayed error it is usually a line issue. For MS users if regular trouble shooting does not clear the issue most times the MS fix does. When the MS fix does not work for a customer only then would an ISP consider it a line issue and investigate it.

as 99 % of all verizon users are win 95, or better users also, its a verizon problem. all they had to do was issue a warning with the site and the fix, whats so fricking hard about that.........

Ask one of their tech support people, 99% of VOL customers are NOT win95 users, that would make life far too simple. Tech support hears from Win2000pro, WinNT,WinXP, MAC OS's and Win98 of course, Linux(not supported, boy do they hate that). Rarely does a Win95 call come into tech support, most people ditched that a looonnngg time ago. The winsock fix has been around for a very long time, it has squat to do with VOL services and everything to do with the MS Windows OS platform. The fact that it worked and cleared up your issue just goes to show that the problem WAS with your machine, not VOL services.:D

i said win 95 or better, which means win 95 and everyhting after, as i said 99 % of their customers are m/s customers. and not to put to fine a point on it, we all knew m/s customer support was krizapppp,, now we know verizion has the same attitude. hers a clue pal, its called cutomer service for a reason, you are supposed to help customers, by sending out an email, verizon would have been doing that, by not sending it out, well it seems verizon is just like the rest .... huh.
