I need help

Ok I have 256Kbps cable service provided by Charter Communications, well my problem is I have slow speed I can only download at top 35kbps and my ping sux when I host games or play. I used a patch and still no luck! I am using:

Compaq Presario 5000T
Pentium III 850mhz 100fsb
Accton EN1207D Series PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
Windows 98SE
Motorola SURFboard SB4100 Cable Modem

Here is what I have after Tweak:

Looks like you don't know.

Kbps = kilobits/sec

If you bought a 256Kbps connection, then 35 Kilobytes/sec is darn close to your max. Actually a bit more than what you pay for.

Hosting a server on a slow connection like the one you have J_hamp60 is the problem. Your upload is most likely even lower than your download cap. How do you suppose you can host a PC or two playing games when you can only get 35K/sec on a download, let alone an upload?

Ask your ISP if they have a better plan. May cost more but if you want to host games you'll need more bandwidth.

RWIN is way too high for a 256kbps connection... you should lower that sucker... waaaay lower... like about 8760.. or if that's too low, try 11680, and that's still a little big.. That RWIN size for that type of connection is probably what's causing this gaming issue.

Besides, you should listen to what Norm said... get a better speed package because hosting a game server with that slowness... is horrifying.
