what is a good rwin for a 56k modem with windows xp, any
suggestion will be helpful. thank you

Your MTU should be 576,, which makes your MSS 546.

A good RWIN probably would be the standard 64248....

Try clicking on the link in my signature for SGTCPOptimizer and download it. Choose "Dial-up" and the click on optimal and then apply. reeboot. See how that works for you....

If I may... I have a laptop that I hook-up to cable when I’m at home or in the office. I have the laptop tweaked for cable so my RWIN is 256960. When I travel, I use the 56K modem but I don’t change the RWIN (lazy). Anyway... it works pretty good. You might try a RWIN or two and see what works best for you.

Like I said, 256960 works for me but 64248 might work better for you.

I usually don't change anything when I travel. MTU 1500 and RWIN of 256960.

I do have a backup registry called Travel,, that I set up for my 56k modem, but the only time I only use it when I run across a really slow connection. I just back up my registry before I apply the travel reg and when I get home I apply the backup I made before I applied the travel reg.

Yes I agree. You really have to try quite a few rwins to find which one is right for you.

Wings,, try a few different RWIN values and then reboot and speedtest to see the difference. Remember the RWIN value should be a multiple of your MSS value (for modem it is 546)

Try the tweaks for 56K in my sig, you should leave your MTU at 1500 and RWIN at 5840.:)

When I was using 56K, these were my settings:

MaxMSS - 536

MaxMTU - 576

RWIN - 8576

(Note: These were based on sending small packets
