In the 9x or ME registry it is located here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\netTrans\000 n

MaxMTU = 16-bit integer
Data Type: String

This specifies the maximum size datagram IP that can pass to a media driver. SNAP and source routing headers (if used on the media) are not included in this value. For example, on an Ethernet network, MaxMTU will default to 1500. The actual value used will be the minimum of the value specified with this parameter and the size reported by the media driver. The default is the size reported by the media driver.

Normally for cable connections MTU is set to 1500. For DSL with PPPoe it's 1492

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\NetTrans\000n (Where "000n" is your TCP/IP protocol. It contains "TCP/IP" assigned to the "DriverDesc" value. "n" can be any number from 0 to 9)

If you have multipule 000n keys with "TCP/IP" assigned to the "DriverDesc" then you change or add the MaxMTU value to all of them.

So I change the "TCP/IP" to the MTU value that I want?

That doesn't tell you where to change the MTU from the Registry!!!!!!! :mad: That does explain very clearly how to change MTU, you just have to redo 'comprehension 101' class.

Are you still wondering why help is so skimpy where you are concerned.

I figured it out in a few seconds.

You have been told exactly how twice above if that is confusing for you I HIGHLY suggest you do not manually change it rather download and use the TCPOptimizer and it will do it without you digging through your registry.:)

IMHO: Use the Optimizer. Test on the Analyzer. If it doesn't work, THEN worry about changing it in the registry.

step -by-step
open regedit:
click the start button, then on the menu that comes up click Run...
in the screen that pops up type "regedit" without "", then click OK.

using the address from the links that we have given you move into the file folders in the window that is regedit, each \ marks the end of the name of a file folder and the next can be found with in that file folder. when you get to the 000n you look in each folder for the one that has both a value other then 0 in the TCP/IP and the DriverDesc, in this folder that should have the name of youe network card that you have your internet connected with as a value of one of the strings, you make or change the string called MTU. you can do this by right clicking it, and remember that the 1500 is a value that is not in HEX. if you need more info just ask about what part we are losing you on, not just how do a change an MTU.

just incase, he is not, that tweak I had to work at a little at first, remember the patch just dose it to all of the 000n file folders, not just the one, and as we all not thats not go.
