Well, as I kicked up Download Accelerator Plus to download a CounterStrike file, I noticed that strange things happened on one site. Whenever I was downloading a segment of the file from that site, it sped up the overall download speed. Then, I made DAP download only from that site, and ZOOM! Download speeds went from 4.4KB/S to 100KB/S. Wow. Then, I tried downloading the file with the Windows downloader. Same thing - 84KB/S. Then, when I downloaded the thing, I tried another file from the same site, same directory. There was no speed increase. It went at a sluggish 5KB/S. Anyone know why?

Just curious, but how big is this file you're downloading?

As much as we would all wish, 56K will not be faster than 5 Kilobytes per second.

Download Accelerator sometimes has extreme boost downloads (false ones) and give innacurate results. It then levels out to your true download, 5 Kilobytes per second.

You should consider getting broadband. Trust me, you'll never go back to Dial up again... depending where you live. Hopefully, you have some nice ISP's in your area. Optimum Online (by Cable Vision) is probably the best Internet Service Provider right now.. From price ranges $29 to $50 a month, you can't go wrong when your download limits are 10mbps, and your upload limits are 1mbps. The average OOL user acheives 4000kbps - 8000kbps...

Check out this page to see some of the ISPs out in the net. http://www.pcworld.com/features/article/0,aid,73865,pg,7,00.asp

Actually, I am telling the truth - I tested it on the slowest download manager you cam get (the Windows one) and I still get 80KB/S - 100KB/S. If you don't believe me, go to the url below:

ftp.clara.net/pub/games/halflife/cs1004.exe

I am 101% sure, try it, especially if you have dialup.

I sure it appears to happen but as Evil said its very inaccurate. Had it happen to me a few time as well. Man you gotta lose the dialup and jump on the Bandwidth wagon.

gamedude2002, you've been had.

If you're using a 56K dialup connection you won't get any better than about 7K/sec no matter what you try.
