Has anyone experienced this problem?

I've just switched my high speed connection from Earthlink DSL to Earthlink cable (which is provided through Time Warner Cable).
Anyway, quite often I've been finding client names in my DHCP ACTIVE IP TABLE which most certainly aren't names of any of my machines.

I do have File and Print sharing open on all four machines which i'm aware can be potentially dangerous.

Also, I was told that now that I have a cable connection I am a whole lot me vulnerable to attacks than I was with my DSL connection.

Does anyone have any idea why these other client names keep showing up in my DHCP AVTIVE IP TABLE?
Is someone connecting with my machine or is my router picking up someone else's machine?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Teddy.

well what kind O/S do you have, you might want to change your internal subnet and gateway, and if your running any kind of server are you using IP forwarding? this would make you a little more secure.

Box #1 Win 98SE
Box #2 Win XP Home Ed
Box #3 Win 2000
Lap Top Win XP Home Ed (using wireless connection)

I do have Win 2000 server installed on one of the drives in one machine but, at this time I not running a server through my router.

Thanks.

Sounds like someone in your area has a wireless card and using your AP. Are you using WAP? Is you SSID/ESID linksys? Try turning off the Wireless and see if u see clients if you do then they are on the switch and you just don't know about it, if not you are using standerd linksys settings on your AP and have DHCP enabled. Change the IP rainge and give out static IP change the SSID to nonstanderd and use WAP (anyone with airsnort can crack the WAP key but that takes few hours and most people don't wait that long). Hope this helps..

I would install a firewall program so you can block or unblock ip's that you don't want. With a good firewall program you can just put the the computer name and block it
