We have been having problems with our LinkSys 8-port router -- it has been dropping us off of the internaet and sometimes just drops all of our leases to the network.
We just downloaded the latest firmware ( Ver 2.40.2 ) for this thing --- has anyone used this release and if so, is it working for you?
Is there a firmware version which is generally considered to be GOOD ???

What firmware are you currently on? I've had good luck with firmware since 1.38 or so.....including 1.40.2.
I'm not really fond of using the DHCP of the router, if it's a small network, assign static IP, gateway, and DNS. Or if you have an NT server on the network, use it's DHCP. But I don't like routers DHCP services.
I have a similar issue. My BEFSR11 Linky will just suddenly stop. The only way to fix it is to power cycle the router. The cable modem is working fine though. I believe my firmware is 1.38 (I'll have to check again after I get home). I hope it's just a firmware issue - if not I'll have to just get a new router.
Suggestions, comments, input anybody?
Rather than recycling the power next time, try accessing the router via http and going to the "WAN Status" tab. If the router shows that it is connected, then disconnect and reconnect.
I just created a link button on my browser to do that and it seems to work every time. I don't know if it's really the router that is disconnecting my system, or my dsl line.

Apparantly the new revision of the system firmware has fixed that particular problem. The 2.40.2 version we put on the machine Monday has been working OK since then - no drops of connection.
