I'm running my PC and laptop through a Linksys cable modem and router. Everything was fine until about 3 days ago when the activity light on my modem went CRAZY, even if I was doing nothing (surfing, downloading, gaming, etc). It has been blinking like mad for 3 days now. I noticed that when this started happening, my ping times in Castle Wolfenstein went through the roof and I tend to get an interrupted signal and drop games occaisonally as well. For the record, I have done a trojan and anti-virus scan with all the updated signatures. According to Cox, my connection from their end is fine (I know the rep and he is honest). Linksys was NO help at all. Another weird thing is that my firewall (Sygate) shows no activity, or at least nothing unusual even thought the activity light stays solid for minutes at a time! This is driving me C-C-Crazy! Any help would be appreciated. square

How is it without the router?

I haven't tried it without the router because it took me two days to get the thing set up and I fear unplugging everything. I talked the the Cox guy again yesterday and he said that it's probably traffic being blocked by my router, therefore my PC's firewall isn;t seeing it. In any case, something is hammering it. I got dropped from several games last night...again. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Thanks for your reply! square

i think it's your router, but because you fear unplugging everything, could you tell me what took you so long to set it up? was it inputting setting configs? I think i can help, i just need to know this....

Latest anti-virus with latest definitions and a full scan?

Run an updated version of ADAWARE?

I might have misspoke a little bit. It took me so long to set up because I originally had a Motorolla surfboard that wouldn't talk to the router without a crossover cable. I had been renting that modem from Cox so I opted to go out and buy the Linksys modem assuming there would be no compatibility problem- which there wasn't.

The activity light problems started out of the blue. I use Wolfenstein as an example because it shows how bad my connection has gotten. The first three days I had the router set up it was working GREAT. I had plenty of servers pinging under 100. Some as low as 45. Now I'm lucky if I get one under 100. Most are in the 200-300 range; the same ones that had been pinging sub-100!

Another problem I noticed recently is that I tend to drop my ftp connection while uploading. That's another thing that never happened before the activity light started going nuts.

I did do a scan using the latest Ad-ware and anti-virus and nothing showed up.

Any help would be appreciated! square

the router and my ping times and overall connection improved dramatically even though the activity light is STILL going ballistic. Hmmmmm. Thoughts?

if you have the linksys router.. you should first call customer support.. usually they take you through a bunch of steps that will allow them to diagnos your problem. I think it's either something in your configurations of the router, or maybe it's your isp to start with... i am not sure at the moment!
