View Full Version : dsl networking
my friend has a laptop with windows xp and his roomate has a mac G4. they just got dsl and want me to network it for them. im not too familiar with DSL but i understand that evertime you turn on your computer you have to sign into dsl.
i was wondering if there was a way to bypass that part that just straight logs you on when you turn on your computer.
what is the best solution to this type of network?
they bought a netgear RP114 router also.

The router will log on to the network. The PCs will access the Internet via the router.
Set up the PCs to Obtain IP automatically , basically the default settings when you install a NIC should work.
you will have to put the logon info in the router. Have you setup the router yet?
what do u mean by seting up the router? i have a network at my house right now...but its cable.... the question i have about dsl is that...when you turn on your computer u have to log on before dsl starts to work, unlike cable where your logged on already. i was wondering if you can bypass that part somehow where you can set it up so it autimatically signs on...

ANy PPPoE software you get will allow you to connect on boot automatically by-passing the need to log on. Or if you do have a router you set it to do the logging on automatically for you also. Then you never have to worry again.
