Big time I might add!

Pictures are provided so bare with me while explaining my problem.

I received my adsl digital cable two weeks ago and ever since then I can not use my LinkSys via the wan port. I can connect everything up to the LinkSys but only working using the up-link port. That works fine. I can surf, watch TV etc. but as you know utilizing only the switch portion of the LinkSys I have no firewall protection or ip forwarding capabilities.

The first picture is of the Dlink hub provided by my isp. This is exactly how the install was completed by the field technician from my adsl router, to my PC nic and off to my adsl digital TV receiver.

Here is the back view from the adsl digital tv reciever.

I want to get rid of the hub altogether so I plug all the network cables into the LinkSys. Output cat5 from adsl router to the wan port of the LinkSys. Nic to port 4 and adsl receiver to port 3. I configure the setup in LinkSys. My internet connection is fine but I can not get my adsl reciever to work hence no tv.

If I plug the output adsl router cat5 patch cable to the uplink port of the LinkSys all works fine.

What is going on here? Any suggestions?

First, If you hook up the way you should to the WAN port and then hook the PC and TV to ports.

Then access the Web interface for the router does the Digital receiver recieve an IP address?
If it does place it in DMZ mode.
Just a thought
Other way would be to leave the hub in place then put the router behind the hub so that your computer is behind the firewall.
Only two thingsI can think of right now

Let me give that a try real quick. But doesn't the output cable from my adsl router have to connect to the wan port of the linksys? Will connecting the nic cable to the wan port work?

I think whats happening is that the firewall blocks the TV box from talking.
and when I rewire my house my Linksys will be behind a hub and server. The server will ge its addy from the ISP and the Linky will get its addy from the server.
should work just fine

Do you have a crossover cable?
Might need a crossover from hub to Linky

I guess I misunderstood you. hehe

I plugged my nic patch directly into the wan port of the linksys bypassing the hub altogether. doh! Of course that wouldn't work. LOL

Haven't tried a cross over but explain to me how connecting directly from my nic to the wan port will work. My output from my adsl router is connected to the uplink port of the dlink hub.

Ok, right now I am posting on my Server, it is plugged into the linksys Router.
The wan port is plugged into a port on a hub, the uplink port on the hub is plugged into the Alcatel Speedtouch modem, same one you have. And it is working just fine, no crossover cable. When you said it wouldn't work I had to try it and it does.

After you plug linky into the hub, unplug the power from the linky then plug it back in, should work.

No no no, wan port to hub, your NIC to linky port
modem to uplink on hub, tv to port on hub, it will work, i promise

Ok power cycling down the linky worked.

Right now my nic, adsl tv reciever and uplink cable from adsl router not to mention the new straigh thru cat5 patch to the wan is connected.

So, now how do I firewall my pc if it's connected to the hub?

Sorry I had to make a cable up real quick.

Plug the NIC to the linksys port leave the wan to the hub, leave the TV to the hub and leave the Alcatel to the uplink

Thanks for the help Chris. I had a brain fart for a second. I'm only having one bit of difficulty now. Trying to get on the web from the linksys. LOL Connection is fine I even tried dmz with my ip. Any suggestions?

Hope you come back tonight. :D

Chris,

Here is the pickle. Everthing is working fine except I can get to the outside world (the net). Even with dmz set for the lan ip.

I have a straight thru patch cord from my hub to the wan port of the linksys and a straight thru patch cord from my nic to port 1 of the linksys. I have the link/act and 100Mbps lights on for my nic connection per port 1. All is good.

I have a 10Mbps hub. Should my nic connection on port 1 of the linksys be configured to 10 or 100 Mbps per my network connection?

Why can't I get to the outside world? I'm at wits end here. lol

Here are my settings. Hope this helps.

Your pulling 0.0.0.0 on the WAN???
Shut everything down, starty the modem first, wait till you get two solid lights, then plug in the hub, then the router. wait for Ack, then fire up the PC, should work
