one of my machines has a 1.0gb athlon with 256mb sdram and XP Home and on idle the cpu is at 50---65% but on my P4 system and my Laptop All Running XP Home they run between 2----8% Whats up???????
AMD"s run alot hotter than pentiums
1st- what kind of cooling u got in that box?
2nd- what type of hsf setup you have on that cpu?
You might have poor cooling in both. Also you might have other programs your cpu is processing at the same time

Go to Task Manager, click on the Processes tab and look in the CPU column. There you can see whats doing what when youre idling.
