For more information on Hosts files, check out Gorilla Design Studios (http://accs-net.com/hosts/) -- and especially look into eDexter (http://accs-net.com/hosts/eDexter.html). I highly recommend using eDexter if you use Martin's Hosts file.
Did that after going to the Martin site using the link at mid page. He suggests using the http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/Images/gds.jpg for WinNT users. Must be his list.
Good info though, Thanks.

The GDS Hosts list comes originally from Martin's list. If you click the link they provide, you can see the list says:
# It was last updated on July 9th, 2000 from the list by Stephen Martin
# Check the following websites for updates:
Plus on the page entitled "How to use the Hosts File (http://accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html)" there is this quote:
"Updates may be found on the update page maintained by Stephen Martin (http://www.smartin-designs.com/)."
Lastly, the first line on that page has a (click here) (http://www.smartin-designs.com/downloads/hosts_127001.zip) that links directly to www.smartin-designs.com/download/hosts_127001.zip.

So, GDS really is just giving you another place to download Martin's List -- but the ones they have are out-of-date. However, they do tell you to "Check for... updates" on Martin's site.
Regardless, get the up-to-date list from Martin -- but check out eDexter from GDS. It is cool and it should speed up your browsing -- if you use a Hosts file.
I have a hosts file that I got from the OLD Speedcorp.net. It is 359k and it works well. :)

It should work OK, but given the fact that web sites change all the time, how many of those addresses are still valid? More inportantly, how many NEW addresses does that old list not have?
If you feel an old list of "bad addresses" is going to protect you today, then you are correct -- why bother to update the list? Keep the old one. :)
