:D Sorry - been a very long day :)

We would need more information. What is your OS, describe your hardware, who is your isp?

W98 doesn't come with many diagnostic utilities, unfortunately...
Do you know how to check for resource conflicts?

Do you have any other machines connected to the router? Cable has pretty low uploads so when you get several users with heavy traffic you can run into problems.

Does this happen when downloading from all sites or only certain ones?

Has this been happening since you have had the service? If not, what has changed?

What games are you playing? Not that I know much about the gaming piece but I have seen posts about adjusting framerates and such to prevent occassional lockups...the fact that it happens in both cases (gaming and downloads) makes me think that is probably not the root cause.

Make sure that you have updated drivers for your NIC, too. By the way - what kind of NIC do you have?

So its only 1 computer that locks up right???? So i guess u can eliminate the possibility of it being a network problem....not much help but hey its a start :P

Do the other computers have the same setup as far as Software and hardware???? I would suggest u find the difference between the one computer with the problems and the other 2. Like is there any special software u have installed on the 1st one that u dont have on the other 2.

Have seen a couple of posts where: computer A is playing an online game. Computer B is downloading (both behind the same Linky/netgear class router). One or both freeze up, both have crappy performance. It had to do with the upload caps. Each downstream frame requires an acknowledgement. If you have a lot coming downstream at the same time, your upstream queue gets full. Once this happens, your performance turns south. The issue (beleive it or not) is the reliability of TCP/IP - the fact that acks have to be sent upstream. many cable companies cap upload @ 128k...

Good luck,

also you may want to look at your browser setting, your cache may set to low and the cache is full.go to the control panel and open up internet option, under Temporary internet file, click on the setting botton and move the slide bar to make the cache bigger. sometime when the cache is full it can make the browser stop working for a few sec.and stop the downloads. SO delete the cookies and files and see if that help or make the cache bigger
