Hey, ive had a toshiba pcx1000 cable modem and i get an average download speed of about 100kbs to 180kbs. I know this is very far from cables full potential and i have treid a couple of tweaks that really havent done much.

Can someone PLEAAAASSEEE tell me how to acheive a much higher download speed with this cable.

Thanks

The speeds you get depends on what your service is capped at. If your service is capped at 1500 mbits down then the max you'll see is 187 Kb/s.

Yep, what ISP are you using?

Caps are set by the ISP

I know your so anxiously waiting for each download... you should know by know that if you adjusting your RWIN you'll get more data streamed to your computer.. whats your current analyzer results.. follow the link and copy/paste to your next post.. don't include your IP address unless you put XXXXXXXXXXXXX's through it. http://forums.speedguide.net:8117/

Thanks for all the replies i look forward to hearing more about increasing my speed.

Here are the results for that link you posted

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 118 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Also for the guy who asked who my isp is it is att broadband
So with this said any reccomendations on how to increase my speed?

you are right at your cap. 1500 kilobits=about 190 kilobytes

So you are saying there is nothing i can do to increase my speed?

you cant go any faster your right at the cap ATTBI caps there service at 1500/128 thats about 190/15 kilobytes of actual TRANSFER speed

You do realize that a full T1 is approx 1500kbits downstream, right? They cost several hundred dollars (some places more than $1000)/month...do you really have anything to complain about? You get close to your rated speed. You should really consider yourself lucky. Many people can't go near that.

I am not trying to feel good about my connection here, but why do my test results come out so much higher if I am on a cable line also? http://www.dslreports.com/speedtests/1946052;362318;d86c580ffa1b8387510b5757f47a8440;2.0;www.dslreports.com Is there that much difference? I am just outside Cleveland on RR, and I took the test at broadband whatever, so why exactly do I see better performance than MOdEm? Even my upload speed is better than MOdEms download speed? MOdEm, I am new to this, and I am trying to understand it also, and I wonder about my potential versus my actual speed. How do you guys know MOdEms cap??? I don't see it there. My original test said to increase my RWIN, and I did..........alot faster after that. My RWIN is set way over ten times more than MOdEms, so why can't he do the same? I am simply trying to understand all of this. When they first hooked me up, I was disappointed to see it didn't load pages any faster than my old 56K did, but after alot of tweaking, I am happy..........why can't he do the same? Sorry to ask ?s on your post, but they kind of go along with it, and you may find info too if they get answered.:)

i think he means up to 180 kilobytes down and just doesnt know the diff between bits and bytes he is right at his cap. Modem- 1500kilobits down is the same as 180kilobytes so you are getting exactly what you are paying for.

Thanks sammy it helpful to find that someone here can possibly help. If you are getting such fast download speeds can you explain to me how to make my rwin 10 times faster as well and what other tweaks i could use.

Thanks

How could you feel cheated?

That is what they advertise the speeds at!

One last time -

and it's about time for this thread to be closed.

Your ISP has capped your speeds at 1500/128 kilobits.

SammyStingray uses an ISP that caps at 2000/384.

If you want faster speeds, you have to get a higher cap from your ISP. I do not believe that ATTBI offers them at present.
