right click over your desktop.. new->text document.

start->programs->accessories->notepad.



could be different depending on your OS.

In W98 it places a shortcut on the Desktop called "New Text Document".
Double click the icon and NotePad appears.

You can also keep a shortcut to Notepad on desktop easy drag and drop. Notepad is located at c:\windows\Notepad.exe
