Damn, DAP (speedbit) is on there. I guess i'll have to eat my words on DAP. I didn't think it collected personal info, or tracked users.
I was wrong ....gulp!!
I would still like to see some proof about DAP, lists don't tell the whole truth. I want the logs!!!
Hi Norm,
I can't give you the logs because I don't use DAP, however:
This is the privacy part of DAP's EULA. I hope it shows what you want..............

To find out exactly what spyware is being used, you have to run the "setup.exe" for DAP. The truth is in there and to hint at the spyware used you only have to look at my avatar. You will be asked to agree to the collection of information and it will tell you the methods of collection. Once you have the info, you can simply exit the setup without installing.
Have fun. ;)
Croc.
Thanks Croc much appreciated. Sorry for the delay, I got into something.
Time for me to bite the bullet and use one of the alternatives. I like all the features of DAP and kinda got used to having it around. I also have a collection of Download Acclerator versions from close to it's inception. I'll have to go back and check some of them out and see if they have any ads. I don't believe the earliest versions did, and they did a good job, just less features. The spyware corporations hadn't heard of DA in the early days.
It takes a commited moral standing to hold out against money vs submitting to the spyware infestations in your work. I wonder if the programmers care?
That's ok Norm.
Did what you got into fit well? ;) Pics please. Oh, hang on, that's slip into something... forget the pics. :D
Lots of discussion at Becky's on DAP. MickeytheMan said he was going to frame the EULA. LOL.
Apart from the EULA there is now some extra pages to "compulsory agreement" to before the install will kick in.
You are probably right about the earlier editions and the struggle for the almighty dollar is fierce these days.
In SpeedBit's favour I have to say that they do give a VERY UPFRONT warning that crap is going to be added to the system and the install is NOT going to proceed without the crap. The unfortunate bit is that most d/loaders would NOT be savvy about what agreement to the conditions entail.
Have a great weekend.

Of course that isn't all the nasty objects and companies out here, but some of the most known and most seen. I found the card to be informative, but it only scratches the surface. ;)
I started using FreshDownload from Freshdevices. It does what I wanted, and I still get 250KB/Sec average on downloads. All I really needed was the # of simultaneous downloads feature. IE only allows 2 downlaods at a time.
There's probably a reg hack to allow more, but too lazy to go look for it.
I'll just use this new one, until it gets on the list too :)
How long will that be? Any guesses?
Norm, how did you missTHIS (http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml).
(Web Patch - faster loading of Web Pages)
IE only allows 2-4 silmultaneous connections = downloads. Install that patch and increase it. I have had up to 10 different MP3's downloading at the same time.
I didn't realize that tweak gave IE the go ahead to increase simultaneous downloads, I thought it was for faster web pages only.
Thanks Tony, I might uninstall this new proggie, and just keep a clean system. The less I install, the better.
