View Full Version : Linksys WAN link flashing
Please help! I am trying to connect my BEFW11S4 v2 Linksys wireless router to my Toshiba PCX1100 cable modem. I am using a regular CAT5 straight through cable for that.
All the proper status lights are on for the cable modem, but WAN link light on the router flashes (sort of the way the activity light flashes on the modem).
I can go through the whole setup for the router, including cloning the MAC address just fine.
Linksys tech support says the WAN link light shouldn't be flashing, duh, and I just have a bad router. This is my third one! I have no clue whether it's the router or my cable provider (AT&T-MediaOne).
I am pulling my hair out!
If that's the third one, I would strongly suggest taking it back and getting something else. Most here like Netgear or Nexland.
I personally have a Linksys BEFSR41 and have had no problems at all. But there is no way I would put up with a third one.

Turn on inbound logging first and refresh it a few times. If you see a bunch of entries in the log, then it may not be a failure. When code red was going around the WAN link light would go crazy with connection attempts. I thought my box was trying to die on me. Just a thought.
For the record, I have since bought a Nexland - MUCH better box.

If that's true, then every single Linky I've ever installed, including the one I'm staring at right now, must be bad. And, the Sonic Wall SOHO on my office network must be bad too. And the SonicWall Pro-VX I installed a couple months ago at a client site must be bad. :p
You get the picture.
Seriously though, the WAN side Activity light blinks in sync with the Data Activity light on your Toshiba- this is normal, and nothing to be concerned with.
Are you having other problems with the router, or is this your only concern? Does it connect to the Internet?

His WAN LINK light is flashing. Not the activity light.
I read somewhere this may have to do with the strength of the signal to the cable modem. Perhaps your problem lies between your cable modem and MediaOne?
How do things go when you connect the PC directly to the modem?

My wrong.... sorry about that. I was reading it too quickly. No, the Link light should not flash. In fact, it shouldn't even flash with data transfer.
I would now begin to suspect cabling. It seems very unlikely, that 3 of these in a row are all defective. Certainly not impossible, but unlikely.
As others have asked, can you connect directly to the modem ? Have you tried other cables?
Linksys wireless ????????sound like it need to be reset
