Hi all.
I am having some problems with ie6. Its fine when I start it up but when theres a link which opens into a new window, the new window doesn't load up at all.
Put XP disk in, click on exit when it comes up, leave disk in, you may be missing critical system files, type in RUN box sfc /scannow and click OK. (Space between c and /) Takes about 10 minutes:)

hmm, doesn't seem to work...
Did it ask for XP Professional Disk?:)

When should it ask that? because it didn't...
Try it again, you did not type it right, worked on mine, do you have XP disk:)

I've got the xp disk in and i run sfc/ scannow and it checks for stuff and then nothing else happens after that.

It says "please wait while windows verifies that all window files are intact and in their original versions."
Nothing is supposed to happen, it just makes sure all critical files are on your puter, have you changed anything, REBOOT and see if there is a difference, in IE under tools, internet options, advanced, click on restore defaults, reboot:)
If none of that works try downloading this:
Download from mirror site:
http://www.windowsxp.nu/
Please click in my signature where it says Test tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speed Guide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.:)

umm thats the problem, i can't load up that page because for some reason all the links opened in a new window don't load.
Restore defaults as it says above, do it in safe mode if you have to:)

i have restored the defaults..makes no diff.
i've noticed that in the new window the url doesn't load up, so is that why?
I don't know what the deal is, everywhere you go on net it says try this tweak for XP, it probably works except for one thing, Home and Pro edition are not the same and most of the tweaks being posted are for Pro edition, I think Bill Gates knew this and wants everyone to upgrade to Pro, if you have changed anything, change it back:)

well i've recently reinstalled my adsl drivers...does that affect it?
Well, I don't know as this is just coming to light, I would upgrade to Pro if you plan on tweaking, as for now, I can only think of one thing and I can't bring myself to say it, sorry, did you make a system restore copy like it says in help thread below:)
