New Cable User needs Help

Hello everyone, I am new to the boards. I just got adelphia cable internet and contrary to we have heard about adelphia i am Blazin fast.

16666.7 K bytes/sec

This test was from the McAfee Site But i was tweaked at 56k settings on SGTCP oprimizer....

Thats not to accurate i suppose but i am averageing 3 - 4 meg.
How ever when i use the tcp/ip optimizer found on this site (after tweaking for a cable modems settings at TCP (RWIN) 256960
and MTU at 1500, MTU discovery:YES Black Hole:NO Selective ACKS:YES Max Dup ACKS:2 And TTL at 64 also the TCP 1323 Options Window scaling is checked and timestamps is not. Now when i optimize it for that setting and reboot, I am ripping **** up kinda fast. I think i odl'ed a 69 meg file in like .........well fast lol.
anyways things dont work correct i get timed out's send emails using outlook express 6 i get packet loss using the max mtu analyzer ON the SG tcp optimizer prog. i cant log into icq ::it hangs:: Some sites wont open. I got summthing wacky going on because when i set the tweaks for 56k where mtu is 576 RWIN is 65392 everything works!!!! everything......... But i am not as fast
:( anyways anyone got any advise for me?

Select cable at top of Optimizer, select adapter, select custom settings and try Tcp Recieve Windows os 513920, 522680, 524176, 531440, 1 at a time, apply changes and REBOOT each time, instructions for speed test on help thread below in sig

I have read alot of your post and u seem top know your stuff.
But those Rwin values didnt help me. I have read of other ppl with the same problem i think it maybe the adelphia servers or something like that. Its a little odd. But i will continue to tweak this and that until i break Everything and end up back on 56k!!!

Nahh but if i tweak it for 56k and i change the MTU even by a lil bit
this is where i run into problems....Any reason u can think of?
56k MTU is 576 and i move it to 700 or even 650 i cant do the thingz mention in 1st post. Also really quick i have read where u said to set your NIC to 10baset 10mb half duplex
mine was deafualted to 100mb halfduplex is that cool?

whuts an easy way to tell if yer running over a PPPoe or not?

PPPoE you have to log on to the internet with username and password. (Not log on to Windows)
PPPoE ( Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet ) is a method for building PPP sessions and encapsulating packets, as described in RFC2516. Although it is not a standard, PPPoE is already being used by a number of DSL providers. It requires either routers that have built-in PPPoE support, or PPPoE software to "dial up" and establish the session. You have to log on with name and password everytime you access net with PPP


But if you are on Cable your not PPPoE, ask:

Try to lower Tcp Recieve Window, 8760, 22900, 32120, No check in scalling, custom settings, apply changes and REBOOT each time

Are you selecting right adapter in Optimizer, should NOT select 56K adapter but NIC adapter:) :)

Sorry man this is dumb but i cant fill anything in lol it wont let me fill in the blanks anyways i am running windoze xp pro full ver
and my speed is Very fast

But i did another test and found out my upload speed was only 56kbps. Ya think that has anything to do with it?
Also do u know if uploads will affect your ping times and or lag u in an online game like Unreal Tournament? My ping is usually around 80 but i look at it occasionally and its at like 233 or 300
like its spiking..

thanx man, heres summthin a lil funny to..
even when i had verizon dsl ::not to shabby either::
or 56k modem everytime i downloaded summthin
it ALWAYS started out flying and gradually slowed down
same as now with my cable internet!!! any help?
