Hi All,
Has anyone heard of XP not recognixing the total speed of a Processor? This student has an AMD Thunderbird 1.4Ghz, but XP (System Properties) only shows it as being 1Ghz....
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I haven't heard of that, but that doesn't mean much. What is reported when the machine is rebooted and what does Pitstop show it as?
http://www.pcpitstop.com/ There is also the program Sandra and Ithink AMD has some kind of tool for reporting CPD speed.

Thanks richardc, I am familiar with PCPittstop. I will check out AMD's site.

What does the CPU post as? There are two 1.4ghz CPU's from AMD. one is 100mhz fsb and the other is 133mhz. If the bios is set to 100mhz it will post as 1ghz system. Go into bios and set the fsb to 133mhz.

Thanks Sid, and crazyjw1971
...

Sid, I think it might be set to 100Mhz. Isn't that the default setting?

crazyjw1971, I will go and check it out.

Thanks again

That is most mobo's default setting. If the CPU is a B series its 100mhz and if its a c series its 133mhz. The B series is no longer made so if its a new CPU then most likely its a 133mhz.
Check it at post it will say what the processor is running at.
