Ok, a couple months ago I started getting the following error message when I booted. "Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device #3 Service B your window configuration is invalid."

I went to the Microsoft help site, got their fix and used it.

However, I still get the message regularly but not in a manner where I can pinpoint any particular item causing it. Sometimes it will boot fine, sometimes I'll get the error. My system.ini file is NOT blank.

What causes this error?? I've never run into it until a few months ago and now it happens frequently.

There have been NO hardware changes. The ONLY software changes have been the installation of a game, Everquest with the expansions of Kunark and Velious and perhaps the installation of Direct X 8.1

I've replaced my hard-drive (it was 4+ years old) thinking maybe it was no longer reliably saving info.

I've done multiple reformats of the hd and clean window's 98 installs and still run into the problem.

My system is comprised of a Asus A7V mobo; t-bird 900 mhz 448meg ram; ATi Radeon 32 DDR; Soundblaster 16pci; Maxtor 20 gig HD.

I've installed the latest Via 4in1 drivers as well as the latest video and sound card drivers.

Could it be heat related?? My CPU is running at about 44 C. I didn't think that was hot but maybe it is?

HELP ME!!!

well since you have 448 megs of memory far to much why dont you just get windows xp. i mean the upgrade which is just 99 bucks and you can still do a clean install by formating but during setup just have your 98 cd ready so when it asks for it to check if this updgrade is legal . xp is a whole lot better.doesnt suck memory up optimized for cpu's the new file system doesnt ever have a disk error so no more scan disk (seriously)

THE ONLY THING BAD about xp is its compatibility with certaing games

I had that same error message on a customer's machine last
month. I would get this message on every bootup. It turned
out to be a bad simm. Try removing one dimm at a time and see
how it runs.
