I played starcraft about 6 months ago with my dial up modem and everything worked fine, I never got disconnected and it rarely lagged. Then I stopped playing. And then last week I got a cable modem and installed my cable with Optimum online. So I started playing SC now without any restricitions on time since I had cable. It was working great...then I played my second game. I started playing and about 10 min into the game the "Waiting for players box" shows up and has everyones name in it and starts counting down. It gets to 38 and freezes. I am forced to hit cnrtl + alt + del. It shows Starcraft [Not Responding]. So I hit end task. Now that time it ended it and I had to restart my comp to regain my connection. But about 5 out of the other 10 times when this same thing happens the blue screen shows up with a message of "A fatal occurence OE has occured. The current application will be terminated" And the number 018F:BFFAADOB are there and I try to hit a key but it just continues to go in a loop with the same message (but i think it had diff. #s). So i have to manually shut off comp. I get back to my desktop when its been rebooted and everything is back to normal.
So this problem has happened to me 10 times and it shows up on my b.net info that i've been disconnected 10 times. This problem only happens with starcraft, and its never happened with Diablo II (which i have also started playing with cable but have had no probs.) So I got the cable guy out here and he said I have a strong connection and its not my latecny (which is 10ms) so he said it must be the game. So I e-mailed and posted on b.net and then I got recommended here. So heres what I have already tried...I have uninstalled and reinstalled SC. I have deleted the Bncache.dat file, I have Uninstalled and reinstallled my video, sound, and modem stuff, I have scanned for viruses (none found), and I have scanned my C: drive (no problems found). My next thing to do is download that ispeed program. But does anyone here have any more solutions I can do or know whats going on? Thank you
P.S.
I have win 98, the newest version of DirectX and the latest SC Patch, NVIDA Vanta vid card.

When I switched to cable I also experienced system lockups because the ethernet card was sharing an IRQ with the soundcard. After moving it to a different PCI slot everything worked fine. Even if you don't experience lockups when running other applications, I'd suggest moving it to a different slot and seeing if anything improves.

If that doesn't work for you...I'd have to say you're one of the many unfortunate people who suffer from problems that occur when running games designed to run on a variety of systems. Isn't PC gaming grand?:p

15 years with consoles and I can count the number of lockups on two hands...1 year with 1 PC game and I easily exceed that.
