I have moved to a rural area in NJ and the only available ISP service is as follows: 1) Dial-up, 2) cable modem (One way only), and 3) Fixed wireless (not satellite). I do a lot of on-line gaming and I am leaning toward Fixed wireless because of the speeds I can get. Relative to fixed wirless versus one way cable
modem, what do you think would be the best.

Welcome to SpeedGuide.net...

Fixed wireless is probably your best bet, but latency will most likely be higher than a solid DSL or cable connection. Using dialup to upload on a one-way cable connection will surely cause latency issues when gaming.

Just so you know, available bandwidth and latency aren't proportional. I've seen ISDN users with better pings than cable/DSL users.:)

Thanks. Another question...........If Fixed Wireless (Radio Waves) are faster than electical transmission (i.e. DSL, Coaxial cable) why would there be the potential for more latency? I understand that the redio waves eventually need to be converted to eletrical transmission when they enter the internet cloud. However, cable and DSL need to pass through the same cloud. Can you explain?

Can you explain? Unfortunately, I don't really have a technical answer for you. I'm not that familiar with fixed wireless setups. I just know to expect more latency than wired solutions. I believe it's the nature of the connection with the main medium being the air via radio waves. There's probably more interference and packet loss associated with it.

its just how the net is and got alot to do with isp as well cuz your only as fast as your isp :) but 1 draw back with wirless is alot of black outs.

what do u mean by 1 way cable slower upload

cuz i got charter cable 128/1.5meg its not to bad wish upload was larger but i still can host 8 and ping great

Approximately, yes. I work for a company who has a 3Mb fixed wireless connection with one of the local ISPs here in town. To my astonishment, the latency wasn't that much worse. It was roughly 10-20ms more to the gateway than my DSL service (same provider) usually is. It's also 3Mb both ways. :)

Yup.. Is one way cable due to older cable lines That cant go both ways?

its due to the cable company not upgrading the amps and nodes to support two-way communication. its not som much the wire as it is the equipment.
