View Full Version : Bad Gaming
i have a Lucent DSL-HS-2.3 MBS router...when my ISP provider installed it all they did was plug it in and set my NIC properties and said HERE YOU GO...and left, but since i have been using it,i cant game at all,I have heard many stories how routers are bad for gaming. was wondering if that is true?also i have heard you can set you mtu and IP adress in it to run a little smoother...with my old lynksys i could change all of that with no problem, but this one omg.something about using communication software that supports VT100 emulation to make changes .now where would i get that and what changes would i need to do(hyper terminal)...i have no idea what were the default settings for this darn thing.if this is considered a bad piece of equipment to use for gaming ,what would be a good SDSL modem...i had an internal XPEED modem that really did very well, but not for networking.i am on XP pro
If this is an SDSL router, it's probably required (and possible issued) by your ISP. In other words, you wont be able to use any old SDSL router and you surely wont be able to use a DSL "modem" on a routed SDSL connection.
As for gaming, you shoud have no problems joing games. On the other hand, hosting will require port forwarding which your provider should be able to setup for you in the router.
they(ISP) gave me an INTERNAL modem 1rst then i went to a LUcent router(+modem) for networking.....but at this stage i am not networked any more till i can figure out why games get jumpy while using this....it was fine with the internal modem.i was hosting alot and haveing good games ,but no more...i used to host 14+ on the zone and 20+ in GR,but now everyone says things get kinda of warpy...but peeps die easely...so either this router just isnt made for gaming or i need to find and external modem that will work.does anyone have any ideas?the lil warpy thing happens to me while not hosting too, just playing around.i very rarely have any retransmissions and i ping at 28 all the time on tests.
