Can someone PLEASE HELP!.
I recently upgraded to 128Kpbs modem, and a broadband connection.
Whenever i try to play UT on any NETWORK DATA RATE setting UT just won't work. Same with Half Life and RTCW.

This was temporarily fixed, by a guy at my ISP tech support, he helped me fix it by getting me to remove a lot of things on my PC and then putting them back, but removing some certain files, seeing if they were the problem, this worked. But he said gaming issues have nothing really to do with there service, at the beginning so i don't think i will ring them up again.

Anyway, after i tried playing RtCW (which didn't work),I went back to UT and my ping was 5000+.(after it was temp. fixed it was around 40 - 70

I have no idea what the problem is, but something is making my connection spike to much when im connectiing to a sever or when i get connected to one!. And i don't know how to fix this problem!,
Has anyone experienced this problem!, if so and it has been fixed, please help and tell me how i can fix/change some settings so it will work for me!. If anyone knows how to fix this or anything that may help, or knows a link which might give a solution to this problem, please reply to this post, I Just want the problem fixed.

Welcome to SpeedGuide.net...

Try conducting some tracerts to game servers and paste the results here.

Using traceroute & ping
Open the Run box (Start | Run... or Windows Key + R), type cmd (Windows 2K/XP) or command (Windows 95/98/ME) and hit ENTER to open a command prompt.

Syntax
Type ping or tracert followed by an IP or domain.
Example: ping www.yahoo.com or tracert www.yahoo.com

To specifiy the number of echo requests to send, use the -n switch followed by a number:
Example: ping www.yahoo.com -n 10
This would result in ten echo requests being sent to yahoo.com.

To output to a text file for easy copying/pasting, use > followed by a path and file name.
Example: tracert www.yahoo.com >c:/trace.txt or ping www.yahoo.com -n 10 >c:/ping.txt
This would result in the tracert to yahoo.com being saved as trace.txt on drive C and the 10 echo requests to yahoo.com being saved as ping.txt on drive C.

Yes, i had done some Tracers before, but right now it won't work with yahoo.com :S:S.

But the person at my ISP provider said it wasn't the modem or line, it was some setting on my pc. But i don't know if there is anything that might change a setting on my PC to make a change which would give me a good ping.
Something about my modem thinks it is always on a certain setting, so it tries to send and receive information the speed that it thinks it is supposed to do these things at, but that speed is too much for UT to handle and so, my ping just goes crazy like 10000+, i don't know how to stop this problem :S.

Is there a solution to fixing this problem?

If you could help plz reply :)

Tweaking wont affect pings.

I'd have to take a look at some tracerts to determine were the latency problem occurs.

Ok i'll get some tracerts for you, to have a look at.

I'm having some Trouble!.

For some reason, the tracert or ping commands with Ip's won't work now?

Although last night they worked fine......

Know why?

If you don't know what is wrong and why they won't work, or what might be the problem, before i changed my stuff before, i mean last night, I made a backup file of my settings, so if need be if i go back to these settings it should then work?

What exactly did you change?

Well the person on Tech Support removed a lot of the files from my driver which makes the modem work, deleted some networking adapters and also the USB drivers which make the USB Ports work.

But these were replaced afterwards, well most anyway, all exceptr a few other drivers which id din't use, which i think, were having an effect on the modem. But the necessary Drivers were re-installed. Basically everyelse i needed.

What if you added this?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP]
"DefaultTOS"=dword:00101000

It might Open a back door that broadcast your ip address to every player in ut to gain access to yer puter via netbios port's and cause major ping issues when u play ut.............:)

Or......Sill me for thinking this .It may just fix yer issues ;)

When you said you get pings of 5000+ at first, and then it's becomes around 40-70, do you mean, it stays around 5000+, upon connection, and then drops right away to around 40-70? If so, it's supposed to do that, or at least it does that to me every single time I connect to a server (Im talking about Unreal Tournament). Also, did you check to see how fast you pinged that server, through the Unreal Tournament Browser? If you're getting like over 500 ms, then it may be that, that server doesn't have good bandwith (server-side problem). Also, go to "preferences" (through console), then "network", and mess around there. If you messed up something and know (like you can't connect to UT servers anymore), just reset everything back to default.

Last thing: For UT, are you talking about demo or full version?

If you're talking about demo, there's a network patch that's supposed to help your bandwith be better utilized when connecting/connected to a server. http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/unrealtourn/serverupdate348.txt (that's the link for what it does and installation instructions). http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/unrealtourn/serverupdate348.zip.html (that's the link to download it.
