View Full Version : does anyone have a linksys modem and comcast?
I bought a linksys modem and am connected to comcast. Apparently they do not support this modem? And customer support doesnt have an answer for when they will be configured for this modem, Do any of you have any answers about this? The tech that installed my cable said that they might by midde of april. But I am looking for a more definite answer.
Thanks
So your connection doesn't work?
It works yes because Im using one of there RCA modems. I cant use mine atthe moment
I trying to decide wether I shoudl exchange the modem I bought or hang on to the linksys untill they support it?
I'd exchange it for one that's already supported. It doesn't do any good to have an unsupported modem lying around and just because they plan on supporting it in the future, doesn't mean they will.
ok I think Ill do that. What do you think of D link modem?
Or what brand of modem would you recommend?
The Toshiba and 3Com (especially the Shark Fin), seem to be the top favorites. Personally, when I had cable I had an RCA, then a3Com Shark Fin, which I liked much better than the RCA.
What are your choices?
There's a D-Link thats like $90 otherwise a Motorola Surfboard I think it is.
go with the surfboard. i had a customer that had a linksys modem and they just dont support them. now glc1 sounds like he had good luck with the sharkfin from 3com, but i have seen those modems have more problems than most other modems.(thats my OWN personal opinion,k)i even think that they discontinued the sharkfin, so check into it, but most important is that before you buy a modem call you isp and see if they support it.:)

I terminated service b/c or a gateway packet loss problem, though nothing to do with the modem.
Anway, I forgot to mention Motorola. I'd go with the Surfboard too.
Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it!
Linksys Routers have a similar problem.
I just posted about it at link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73279)
