I've Subcribed to BellSouth's FastAccess DSL Service.Their Tech said I can share connection with up to four computers..for me this it's not happening. I've an HP 8 port Hub in my Home LAN and I can connect to the internet with only one PC at a time..My DSL modem is configured to obtain it's IP's from a DHCP server. I purchaed a LynkSys DSL/Modem router thinking Nating migh be the solution, but I still can't negotiate a connection. BellSouth refuses to
assist because they don't support what I'm trying to accomplish..However they will upgrade me to
their HomeNetworking service for an additional cost. Is There something they're not telling me?
That is that there's an option on the DSL Modem
that needs to be turned on
Any Suggestion?

A NAT router like the Linksys should do it fine. Un-install all PPPoE software from all your computers, as it often conflicts with the PPPoE support of a routers firmware.

Set all your computers TCP/IP to the NIC to obtain auto....then configure your router to your ISP...username/password. Should be set after that.

PC Tech:

You're on the right path. For BellSouth be sure that you've set the Linksys router to encapsulate traffic in PPPoE.

The router is picking up its address from BellSouth's DHCP servers automatically, but you have to configure the router to act as a DHCP server for clients *in your local network*--they can't see BellSouth's servers from where they are.

Connect BellSouth's modem to your router, your router to your hub, set your workstations to pick up IP addresses automatically (DHCP),and you should be up.

The other respondent is correct in saying that you should uninstall any PPPoE connection software that BellSouth loaded on your computer; the one they usually load is called NTS. Kill it; it will interfere with everything.

So...you should end up with the capability to run many computers on the internet via your NAT router and your single IP connection.

Good luck...
