View Full Version : Is ADSL bandwidth effected?
I have a server is running off a dedicated ADSL line 6.0mb/384k. To the best of your knowledge does the amount of data coming down have any negative impact on the upside?
Not quite sure I understand the question, but downloading requires acknowledgment packtes to be sent and vise versa.
Basicaly I am look to see if there would be a degredation of the available upload room. I am thinking of maybe adding a second DSL line and routing inbout and outbound individualy.

What's the demand like on your server?
This was the last itme I compiled a report but I am assuming this is about average to heavy based on the previous days shown.
Also I use a UGate 3200 router. Would there be a performance increase with a Nexland? I am not impressed with Maxgate and have heard nothing but posatives on the Nexland 800turbo.

Users claim there is, but without personally trying and comparing one, it's all subjective. One's conecption of an increase in performance can be very different from another. I can say the Netgear and Nexland seem to be the most loved.:)

Acknowledgements use one 64-byte packet per two 1500 byte packets received, a 50:1 ratio.
So, downloading at 6mbits requires 120kbits up. Not a problem.
If you are uploading, however, the download will be greatly affected. If you have another process that is uploading and using the full capacity of the line, the download will slow to approximately the same speed as the upload rate. This is built in to the TCP/IP protocol and is not a function of the connection type.
