I'm gonna reformat my hard drive, and i wanna other than the computer name, and workgroup info if i need anything else to get me back online after i reformat, and reinstall windows 98 se on my pc?

And i never installed the "new" stuff from comcast for there transition, and things are still running fine with the @home stuff.

Computer name and workgroup should be all that's needed.

Definitely a wise choice not installing that software.:)

You need nothing else. The default network settings should work fine. Comcast says you need their software to get the most out of their service...Bulls**t. Stay away from anything Comcast says you should download and install.

ya i know, i have been warned many times. 23minutes to go until download finishes.

Hey guys what u think performance wise i'll gain by doing a fresh install. Keep in mind that i've never done a fresh install since i've had my pc, which is over 3 years!

Fresh installs are always best. You can avoid a lot of problems that way.

thats good to hear, also when i have to reinstall my geforce 4 4400 ti, should i install the drivers that came with the cd, and then install the 28.32 drivers from nvidia, or should i install 28.32 right away. Will it make a difference either way?

Will it make a difference either way? No need to install the CD drivers. Just install the latest official or beta drivers, your choice.

No computer name or workgroup is needed.

Install the 28.32 drivers IMMEDIATELY.

That was true with @home, but not under the new network...you can go with what windows puts in there by default...

:D Then you must have the TCP/IP stack info hard-coded.

Everything went fine with the fresh install! I'm an Xp Pro user now baby!

And i did put in the same name and workgroup as before, and the internet is fine and running, not to mention alot quicker loading pages now too.

The host/workgroup was what comcast gave me when they installed my internet about 8 months ago. I've been using the same host/workgroup info since then, and didnt even change it for the transition, but it still works, so thats good.
