I currently dont have a rental fee with the modem that Roadrunner provided me, but would there be any advantage to replacing the two year old modem ? has anyone done this and got faster uploads or downloads.

I doubt you would witness a performance increase by simply buying a new modem or different brand/model, especially if you are capped.
What's your performance like now and what is your cap?

I was told that Im not capped being that I am paying for the business class....my d/l speed is 470KB and my upload speed is 350KB. I guess I dont understand why I am not seeing the full upload speed if it suppose to top out at 786KB ( something like that but I know its in the 700 above range )

Plus, it depends on your provider's network and bandwidth management. 350KBps is much faster than a T1. And even with a T1, there are no internet performance guarantees. Btw, how much per month?
