View Full Version : Can you believe this?
I was reading up on Motorola's website about digital cable boxes we use (DCT-2000) and when I checked the specs out, guess what the return speed is on the internal upstream modem? 256kbps. A television box uploads faster than our (Comcasts) internet service. Pathetic.

Little off topic here, but.....
Your DCT doesn't maintain constant two-way communication with the headend.
The bulk of communications to the box are downstream only unless the headend is polling your box (which is done regulary) to clear Pay-Per-View (PPV) purchases from your box.
Once you hit 64 purchases you can no longer order PPV's from your box and have to call Customer Service, that's why the continious polling by the headend.
Actually its 16 PPV orders before the box shuts off. I didnt say the box uses upstream bandwidth alot either, I simply said it has more capability than our modems are given and I found that funny.

I know you where just making an observation :) If we really want to get technical about PPV limits then the number and dollar amount varies from provider to provider.
The box itself can only hold 64 purchases, however your provider can opt to assign a lower amount or credit limit. The credit limit is the maxium combined dollar amount of all PPV's on the box that you have made.
Sorry I hope I didnt sound rude I didnt mean to :) You are correct about 64 possible, I was referring to Comcast's DCT's which do shutdown after 16 PPV's are ordered on the box before the 2 day sweep.
