downloads time out ?!?!?!?!

i've noticed over the last couple of weeks that my downloads have been timing out at around 2-3mb on avg. of course charter cable is saying it isn't their fault. i try from multiple sites and or multiple d/l's of the same files and i get a little further with each one, but they time out also. i.e. downloading from microsoft used to be really reliable for any file i download, no i can't get anything, espically for the update page


running:

win2k
ie 6
cable 512/128 :(
linksys cable/dsl router + 4port switch
ttl 128
mtu 1500
other settings i can't recall off top of head.

i've tried bypassing the router but that didn't help. tracert's and pings are all decent times. games work fine, it's just downloading :(

Try setting everything back to default with the appropriate default patch (here (http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml)) and go from there.
