View Full Version : Linux Red Hat printing problem
I am trying to get my HP 697C printer to work as a local printer on my RH 7.2 system. The printer seems to install correctly in the printconf- gui utility but I can not print a test page. I've tried every printer driver for this printer and none seem to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
LPD is running, I've restarted it after each driver change.
The error I recieve is as follows.
There was an error trying to print the test page.
Is the printer on? Do you have the lp.o kernel module loaded?
If not, modprobe lp as root then try again, otherwise you might need permissions to access the printer device. Edit /etc/group and add your username to the lp group. After you relogin things should be normal.

The printer is on, I have all the permissions set for the device and it's still a no go.
One thing I did notice, when Linux is loading, it gets to the lpd kernal and displays a message about the host name not being correct. What do I need to change to fix this?

email to halm@ieee.org ask any linux related questions.
or go to the related link program manual (http://unixhelp.ed.ac.uk/CGI/man-cgi?hostname) for linux.. it takes you to where you can change hostname and such.. I'm just looking out for ya.. good luck.
