View Full Version : how can i set "save as" in win 98 to display files by date as default
when i click save as, the box that coems up lists the files in alphabetical order, how do i change it to date as default?
what OS?
you "should" have a view menu button in the save as box in the upper right corner. Choose, detaile and the click the date tab to make list by date, asscend or descend.
like i said in the title, 98 ;)
i know aboutt he tab that pops up when you right click, but i want the view to be saved for the next time it opens instead of it being default alphabetical
sorry, I guess I over looked that
Well the only way I know this will work is setup Windows Explorer in views as details and then click the details tab to make it how you want and then go into views and the hit apply to all folders button. Exit out of exploere and any open instances of IE and it should work. Other than that I dont you can do it.

I am not really sure what you are trying to do.. are you trying to keep your desktop icons arranged by date or your program files in your start menu arranged by date or your windows explorer directory files arranged by date(geez thats a tough one.) if I had a better clue as to what you want to arrange by date I can show you some ways of doing it... but if you want a new explorer that remembers everything and it sorts your files in order of Name Size Date Type ... ascending - descending. well I've got the browser replacement for all.. and it is very easy to change it and reshape it with just a few registry key changes and you can make it fit your needs as well... but Velveta.. I'm not trying to get around your situation by offering an alternative route.. tell us what it is you want sorted.. like what are you looking at when you "save as" because sometimes it matters like when you are saving a .txt file you are given a little save as screen that lists all your files by Name.. I should assume that is what you are after to change.. and I hope you don't want that .. but if you do I will look in my "hidden settings guide book" for that one.. I know its going to be a tough one to change.. but I think I can find it. oh back to that other explorer I had mentioned... http://www.simtel.net/pub/dl/34054.shtml its called 2xExplorer.. it alows you to view your folders/files by date created ascending or descending.. then you can add files to it and change your right click menu by way of registry settings .. its the other solution to the problem you are having.. give me about a day to index through my book to find that setting... wish me luck.
