MY ports are always showed up a closed on some tests and I always have the same 2 ports that are wide open. This started when I got my DSL. I think im behind a NAT, or something. How can my network's "firewall" affect my PC and how can I fix my ports, to beocme stealth:cry:

Jack,
Can you say which ports are closed, which firewall you use, and which website is telling you that you have open ports? If you use a NAT device (gateway router), that could be involved and it would help to know which brand. Finally, if you are connecting via DSL and a Cisco router, please advise on that too.

The sygate website says they are closed so does grc
Those are all closed.
I am using Sygate Personal Firewall.
I dont know to much about Gateways or what not, im using a Visionnet 200ES ASDL Moden which can be found on www.dqusa.com
ALso even when I cut sygate off my results are still the same with it on. Ive also tried zonealarm, zapro, tiny, and norton firewall's they all have the same results.
Did you download and install the necessary patch to convert the modem into a router?
Flexible
Convert the single-bridge 200ES modem into a 200ER Router, capable of supporting up to 253 users with a simple and inexpensive download.
The Router software allows multiple devices to access the Internet with one IP address and also eliminates PC client side software. Firewall security is also offered and hides your LAN devices from the Internet. DHCP Server allows for plug-and-play configuration for LAN devices. IPSec pass-through is also incorporated for the telecommuter.

^BUMP^
There's nothing in the manual re configuring the modem as a router. Looks like you will have to spring for 40 bucks unless anyone else here knows how to do it and also has the upgrade patch required.
