Here's the layout:

My one computer is down the hall about 155ft away from the apartment phone jack

My other computer is in the apartment.

Need to network these two.

Will my current dsl speeds get better, get worse, or stay the same (for my machine down the hall) when I use a router to connect the two comps?

And do I need to buy another dsl modem for the other machine or is a NIC card all I need to get?

What router should I be looking at for good gaming?

i'm running a Linksys router in my home on a network of 4 computers and i notice no drop off in speed when others are in use and i'm gaming online.

All you should need is a NIC card in both computers then run a cable from your DSL modem into your Router then run the cables from each individual computer into the router and you should be set.
