Routers???????

I'm on ADSL...have two computers...one will be using alcatel 8mb modem and other will be using 56k. Computers are roughly 150ft apart and that is not changeable unfortunately. Currently the only computer using highspeed is 150ft away from the phone jack, the 56k'er will be only a few feet away. Here are the following questions:

1. Will using a router to network these machines hinder or improve my current performance for my dl/ul speeds?

2. What router should I look at buying...don't wanna spend a tonne o cash?

WHy not get a Cable/xDSL router, dump 56k on the other, and use DSL for both machines? Just run CAT5 from router to both comps.


Or, is that what you meant? A good router btw is the Netgear RP114.

Yeah, dump the 56k, and use the router for letting both computers use the DSL. I do this with 3 of my computers, and still do not ping less than 60 on good CS Servers
