Just reached 6th place on Seti, but it seems very few are still running it. Maybe I should try something else.
If your looking to try something else may I suggest Folding @ home 2. We're doing well, but we need about 40 more points a week to help us catch some of the teams in front of us. We would really like to have you on board. Of course I wouldn't want to sway your decision.( PLEEEEEASE PLEEEASE PLEEEASE ). I realize you may also be interested in that genoming thing.( NO NO NO NO ). Plus we have a couple of really great stat pages that tell you how you rank not only by the day, but also by the week. They're really cool resources for those who are interested in such things, ( user name: ryo, currently ranked 16th overall,6th on producttion in last 168 hours, should be third but last 5 point WU didn't get entered in daily production fields, sent Den an email, man I hope he can get it fixed soon ) of course I could care less about that.
So I hope that I've helped here without swaying you any. I wouldn't want to be acused of such a thing by my fellow speedguiders ( F@H2 F@H2 F@H2 F@H2 F@H2).
Hope to see you on the stat pages.:D
ryo
PS: You could really help btracy out by giving him something to worry about. ( Poor btracy, always in first place, no competition, soooo lonely.)

The place to be is Genome@ Home. Judging from your profile your system would be dynamite with G@H.
We have several vets on the team and would welcome another one.
G@H is less intrusive then SETI and is low maintance running in the background and we can provide you with some tools that manage it almost automagically.
G@H is "THE" place to be.

I do wish and I figured that they'd put something like that into F@H by now... (re run current WU when server/s are down)
especialy if you consider the fact that F@H is already in Version 2.

Especially since most WU's gets old after 3 days (except for ProteinA).

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!! I will be making my decision very soon, but will probably join both teams and still run SETI on my slower machines. Only downside is that I just got SetiQueue up and working. Anyone know what kind of perf. hit I would take running either folding and seti or genome and seti on the same machine; Tyan Tiger S2460, dual 1800+ Athlon MP, 512 mb, Windows XP Pro, etc.etc.etc. All info is appreciated greatly.

Both Folding and Genoming are great causes. Units can be re-run many times and still be beneficial to the research. The researchers are looking for different sequences from which the final structures are created. Each time your computer reruns a gene, the sequences are different.
BTW, I saw a pharmaceutical ad on TV last night explaining the importance of protein research. Good exposure.

no it's not F@H servers are down FAR too often..
Not sure how recent your perception of folding and the server issues are but I have not had any real issues with servers being out for Folding 2.
Now Folding 1 was a whole different story but just so people don't get the wrong idea I don't see that issue with Folding 2.

I just got a new computer and I was comparing my old system to my new system:
1 work unit
Older System: PIII/500MHz/256MB ~14.5 hrs
New System: PIV/2.2GHz/1GB 4 hrs 39 mins
sweet.
Units Completed: 793
Total Time: 9564 hr 22 min 14.8 sec
but most of it was done by my older system about 1 year ago when i ran it all day, everyday. now i just run it as night.
