I know this question has been answered before, but never clearly.

I have a cable modem and a TV in my room.

What kind of splitter should I get to split the cable signal so I may use both of the devices without any problems?

I tried that with my brother's computer, but the signal on is tv tuner card was horribly distorted due to static and the cable modem wouldn't work.

how many tv are on the line?you may need them to come out and boost the line . to get a better signal. they will do that for free if you call the cable people and tell them your tv pitcher look like crap and the cable people and tell them that you modem is not working they will fix it . but put the spliter in first then call

Dont listen to this person, they obviously dont know what their talking about. "Just any" splitter is not correct. Modems generally use higher freq than older splitters were able to handle (450-500mhz and above) and an underrated splitter will cause you problems. You cannot "boost" the line (unless you aquire an upstream signal amplifier, which arent very common). Dont split the line, get the cable company to do it, if you dont know what your doing, dont mess with it.

If your running a Cable Modem, your cable service is running on a 700 Mhz+ system... You should get a digital Splitter, meaning one that reads 5-1000mhz. Other store bought splitters especially the ones that are glued on the back are not acceptable. Now they may work, but won't be the best.

Just call your cable cable company. No fuss, no problems, job done right and forget it.
Unless there is a reason you do not want to call?
Next you will be posting your modem is not working right, slow speed or what ever.

PS.from the look's of your numbers you could use a little help you must have one of those 500mhz splitter on yours cable line

test one:
Your download speed : 1953994 bps, or 1953 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 238.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 300413 bps, or 300 kbps.
Your connection rocks .. above the 1mbit barrier!
test two:
Your download speed : 2032510 bps, or 2032 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 248.1 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 366770 bps, or 366 kbps.
Your connection rocks .. above the 1mbit barrier!

I really don't want to call the cable company because it's a hassle and I'm sure whether getting free tv through my tv tuner card is legal or not.

I do pay for digital cable, but most of the channels are crap (music stations, ppv) and I can get HBO for free using the tv tuner card. Plus if I want to record a movie for later viewing I don't have to occupy the tv all the time.

I got a comber/splitter from radioshack that has a freq. range 5-1100mhz. Working fine right now. I did notice a bit of a speed improvement for some reason. I guess it must be my imagination.

I definitately not uncapped or anything. HEHEHE!!!:)
