View Full Version : Any Better Speed If I get diffrent cable modem ?
Like that 3COM model a friend has one his internet is great ..I'm using www.comcast.net
Probably not. Not unless there's something wrong with your modem. If you're having problems, it's most likely in the connection, or in the hardware somewhere in your 'neighborhood'. What are your speeds?
How can I tell exacly ..?

I have the 3Com sharkfin with no problems. It's discontinued though. I just checked my configuration at 3Com and this is what I got.
Operation Configuration
Network Access: Enabled
Maximum Downstream Data Rate: 1.50 Mb/s
Maximum Upstream Data Rate: 0.13 Mb/s
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst: No Limit
Modem Capability: Concatenation Disabled
Software Upgrade File Name: unknown
DHCP server IP Address:
Maximum Number of CPEs: 1
So the caps are on at comcast.net not matter what modem you get.
I just ran nyc.speakeasy.net and got
Your download speed : 1210162 bps, or 1210 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 147.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 120481 bps, or 120 kbps.
Good luck!
** Speed 1108(down)/90(up) kbps **
(At least 22 times faster than a 56k modem)
Logged result.
Finish.
In general comcast is lower than the others I guess I have been over people's house they use different cable company it's better speed
