What is the difference between these 2 in terms of speed?:
ISB SOHO
http://www.nexland.com/products/product.cfm?id=6
ISB Pro800turbo
http://www.nexland.com/products/product.cfm?id=4
I dont really need 8 ports and 2 wan ports and failover on the ISB Pro800Turbo, but if that is the faster one out of the 2 above, then I will get it.
Basically all I do at home is games, and need performance.
Thanks
I can't say one is faster then the other because they have the same spec. But if your are a gamer and your on cable modem, I would go with the turbo because you can add a second IP. And with two computers on line in games you can't tell the other computer is even on. You can also play in the same game on the same server because you have an ip for each computer. That why I got one. With the turbo two wan ports it balance the two lines so there is no lag. My cable modem is cap at 2mb/s down and 384 up but I can blow by 2 mb/s like it not there. The bottom line is that both are very fast, but the turbo ads something that the SOHO don't have. two wan port and balance.
4.418 Mbps ( 565.51 KBps
3.805 Mbps ( 487.02 KBp
You will not be sorry with either one:p

I am really confused on how the Turbo works.
I know it says it does have 2 Wan ports, but how does that help me when I only have one cable modem?
What do I plug into the second port to get the better speed?
Thanks for advice.
You call the cable co. and for $9.95 they will give you two IP's. You run the cable modem into a hub uplink port and from the hub you run two-cat5 line to the two wan ports on the router, from the router two-cat5 line's one to each computer. The cable modem will give each wan port an IP.Nexland is the only router that has it unless you want to pay $3000,for a router .The turbo uses both line to feed the modem, even if only one computer is on line. I have found that it run faster if both computers are on line.
I have two kids 16 and 14 that all they do is play online games. Before I added the turbo if they were in half-life one computer would lag the other one out or the ping would be so high you couldn't play. know both will ping 50 to 80 away under a 100.
what kind of a router do you run know? or how do you have them set up ?

Ok I think I got this.
I need to also buy a small hub on top of the nexland router?
I guess what I dont understand how does that gve you faster speeds? By having 2 ip addresses what does that really do?
Doesnt Roadrunner still limit my cable modem to 2 mbps download? Or do they double it because I now have 2 ip addresses?
what kind of speed do you get now?
I don't know were you are at but I think roadrunner is cap at 2mb/s . Hub are cheap.
I can't tell you that you will get faster downloads,or overrun the cap. but I can say that you will be happy with the speed over what you have know.
A round here for home use is set 1500 down and up is 384.I got 500 more down by added a ip.that put me at there cap.
no they do not double it . if you at 2mb/s that about it.that why I ask how fast you are now.

Yep I am capped at 2 mbps for dwonload and think it is 384 upload, I know if I apy more I can get 4 mbs..but it too much money, since I am pretty happy with the speed I get.
I think I am just going to go with the ISB SOHO, it is $200 cheaper, and probably almost as good in performance as the Turbo.
You will be happy with the SOHO.They have the same spec.
Why ask about the big dog if all you want is a puppy(LOL)
I suggest getting a switch instead of a hub if networking 2+ computers. Your network will see a great increase in performance if a lot of multitasking will be done.
As for the router, a SOHO router may be overkill/too costly. You may want to look at some consumer offersings such as Umax, Netgear, etc.. They seem to be the most popular. Note that some routers have switches or hubs built-in.
Here is the long and short of it. Most people end up with two computers. Then they say I can network them and run to their computer store and buy a network kit. Two LAN card a hub and two cable. Then they read the user guide. They’re all set. They have about $80 in it. Then they get dsl or a cable modem and they are all set. But then! The guy at the computer store tells them they need a firewall, so they fork out $39.95 for a firewall program. Then their best friend tells them that they need to have their computers behind a router’s firewall. Then back to the computers store and ask the computer guy. Yes that just what you need to be safe. Then they fork out $99.00 for the linksys BEFSR41 V2 Router. They’re all set. . After a few weeks go by they find out that there network is not very fast. And will not do every thing they want it to do. So they start asking around as what they can do to speed up their network. Then back to the computer store. The computer guy tells them they have a $2000 computer on a $100 network. The computer guy tells them they need to buy a better router. But what is the best one to buy? Which one is the fastest? They have spent $218 on the network and they are not happy with it. So what do they do? Do they pay $129 for the Netgear or $159 for the Nexland SOHO?
They BUY THE NEXLAND SOHO AND LIVE HAPPYLEY EVERY AFTER.
If you want the best get the best, IF you don’t, anything will do.
The fact is not over kill it is under kill.I bit glc1 don't have his computers on a hub or switch on the net.!!!!

Most routers, consumer or otherwise, have switches (or at least hubs) built-in along with firewalls. And yes, all three of my systems are on a LAN and share a single SDSL connection via a switch (Linksys 5 port) and SDSL router (Netopia 7200 w/ only a built-in hub, hence the added Linky switch).

I already decided thanks for all the advice..I am going with the Nexland ISB Soho..what is an extra $60 for a much better router.
glc1: cool set up but it looks like your computers are behind a $400 router.I used a linksys 5 port hub to, cable modem 3 IP's,Nexland pro800 turbo two wan router.
davy19: cool!!! after you get it and have every thing set up would like to know what you think of it.:D

dang you Nexlanders, I'm gonna have to get me one :) My linksys holds up pretty well, but every so often after heavy traffic it will hang for bit, easily fixed by unplugging then plugging it back in, to clear all connections. The only games I play online are Rogue Spear and Urban Operations tho.
But yes, Nexland is the fastest router period......well next to cisco routers.
illestdynasty :That a nice computer you have, you must have over $2000 in it !good set up for gamer's. But why do you have on a $60 network ?
