I have a Toshiba Cable modem PCX2000 that I want to connect to a Linksys 4 port router. I am confused as to what ethernet net cables to use to connect the modem to the router and the router to the pc. Toshiba's instructions say to use a cross-over cable to connect the modem to the router. The modem came with an ethernet cable. Can I assume it is a cross-over cable and use it for the connection or do I have to buy a new cable. Do I use a straight-through cable or a cross-over cable to connect the router to the pc. Any assistance is appreciated.

That does not sound right. In any case, use the cable that came with the modem to connect it to the router. It should be a straight-through cable. Use additional straight-through cables between the router and the PC's.
