My Cpu freezes over the internet in Quake 3 and other openGL games

But I can play single player without ANYTHING happening!

My NIC card is a SOHOWARE cheap card, and its set at Half duplex

Should I get a new NIC and which kind?

First ask in gaming forum as I know nothing about games except strip poker, I use Linksy's NIC card version 5 10/100 and you would have to kill me for it, shop around the NIC is only 16-20 bucks, try www.pricewatch.com :)

You might be sharing NIC IRQ with Video Card IRQ. You might have to manually change IRQ in bios, or in OS, try taking out the NIC and putting it into another PCI slot. Do online games freeze in Direct X as well, or just open GL? Try to update NIC drivers as well. Do you have Wicked GL installed or tried GLsetup yet?

hey mate i had the same problem when playing on line games like unreal and quake and nascar the screen would lock up freeze for 3-10 seconds id get shot or get half a lap behind.....lol

hey i'm no computor buff but i fixed mine by moving my ethernet card too another slot in my computor weird but i had a ****ty slot..
