I've got a problem under Windows2000, basically the computer runs too fast, if that makes any sense...
Java programs run faster than they should, Mp3s play too fast and the voices sound like some bad Chipmunk voiceover... This goes with all media file types (Wavs, mp3s, mpegs, etc.).
What can I do to correct this, it's a really stupid problem with a, I'm sure, very simple answer.
If you have Sound Blaster Live, or something similar you've probably set the voice as a chipmunk.
I don't have that installed anymore to help you further, but the above info may help you fix the problem.
Hope so :)

It's not just audio, it's everything. Java programs running too fast, videos run too fast, audio files run too fast, everything.
This has nothing to do with the soundcard.
Sounds like an overclockers dream come true lol
That's a weird one Unregistered, can't say I've ever come across that problem before. Maybe a reinstall of Windows would help.
When/If you find the cause, could you post and let me know, just in case I ever do come across it, I want to be able to fix it.
Thanks in adance.

Yeah well, we've got about 15 computers with the same problem, no one knows how to fix it.
None of the computers have been altered (to my knowledge) in regards to speed (Windows2000) tweaks or anything of the like.
It sounds more like a registry setting may be to blame, but finding it is impossible to me, and even if I found it I wouldn't know how/what to set it to...
The computers are all Compaq computers, 128MB RAM, 30GB HDs, Windows 2000 (I'm not sure of the version at the moment, I could find out by Monday), with Novell Netware installed.
As far as an "overclocked" appearance, I'm not seeing it. Text editors don't display a faster blinking I-beam, programs don't load any faster.
As far as audio files, wavs, mp3s, whatever, they play at, what seems, about 130% their normal speed. As do video clips when downloaded. The sounds are also increased, their pitch is raised in addition to the speed increase.
I've been checking the settings, everything seems okay, the Codec settings look good, all of the latest drivers for the hardware's installed, DirectX looks okay, Media settings appear in order. Which pretty much leaves the registry.
Any ideas?
Have you scanned for a virus ?
I must admit this is an interesting problem.

Wow, caught my eye too, and I must say...interesting problem.
Deskpro workstations? So you know the history of these computers? Problem been with them forever?
Latest ROMPaq installed? (BIOS version) BIOS set to defaults?
Any 3rd party devices installed that may be conflicting with these? Try removing everything but the essentials and seeing if one still runs fast. I'm thinking something along the hardware level that's throwing the overall system speed off.
there, at one point, was a half life cheat that altered your computer's sense of time so things went faster. i don't know if this caused it but check for viruses
