I have had this msn for about a month. I get very inconsistant speeds and, I cannot pass a line test.(more pings RECIEVED than SENT).. I have spent days with tech support but nothing yet fixes the problem. Is there anyone out there that shed some light on this?

MSN powered by Qwest. 640 down-256 up. Arescom 800 modem,
WinXP

Thanks..

Please click in my signature where it says TCP/IP Analyzer Test tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speed Guide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.:)

Do you have any speed patches installed

SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer
TCP properties for IP = xxx()
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; Hotbar 3.0)

TCP options string = 020405b40103030001010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 16060
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 16060
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 642.4 kbps (80.3 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 256.96 kbps (32.12 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 45 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

Test here as many times as you like, better test anyway:

Do your speed tests here after you turn off all running programs http://www.speakeasy.net/main.php?page=sup_pops , select site nearest to you, turn everything off thats running, 1 browser, clear cache

Even though it is not the nearest the Dallas test is pretty quick

BEFORE SPEEDTEST
1.) Make sure defrag has been run, defragmented files slow you down.
2. At top of IE, click on Tools, internet options, click on delete files and click on offline files (It's safe), click on clear history, yes
3.) Go to Start button, programs, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup, Click OK (Safe)
4.) Run scandisk (Short version)
5.) Scandisk on XP?
Click on My Computer, select Drive that XP is on, RIGHT click on BLANK place, select properties, then tools at top tab, click check now, check box automattically fix system errors, click start,
then test. Turn all running programs off. Reboot computer so you have all your RAM

The speed test seem to work fine. The test that bothers me is the line test failing .. It's the one that says "more pings received than sent"... Is this something to worry about?

It probably has something to do with that TweakXP, did you pay for that:)

I have failed that test from day one. That is the reason I even used the tweakXp...Btw just removed it... Hopefully I won't have to re-format to get all the crap out.

I'll help you:

Make sure you get newest version Download SG Optimizer to your desktop, select connection type at top, select optimal settings at bottom, click on apply changes at very bottom, Select adapter you are using and REBOOT
If you wish to enter custom TCP recieve window select custom settings at bottom, enter what you wish, click on apply changes at bottom and REBOOT.
If using Cablenuts adjuster too, you must first bring up adjuster, click on clear all boxes at bottom and reboot, then download and install optimizer.

Optimizer in my signature

Use Tcp Recieve Window number it comes with first, if not satisfied select custom settings and enter 64240 or 51100, apply changes and REBOOT, check analyzer to make sure RWIN is in

Download and install Cacheman (RAM Booster) and set up: from Right here (http://www.outertech.com/downloads.php?product=3&PHPSESSID=fc181ec87a154c1eed7aa154f500337f) It's free, yes it works on XP, I have XP and use it, you will see it, choose network applications on Cacheman
