I tried DSLReports' (http://www.dslreports.com) baby rwin numbers for a week. No matter what baby rwin number I tried, I still couldn't get over 5 mbps. So I came back to Speedguide today, downloaded TCP Optimizer to my desktop, downloaded cablenut and did the AFD.sys and nic buffer tweaks EarthMofo suggested for a 601520 rwin and 51100 defaultsendwindow. Oh, yeah, I have a setting in the bios(which is made by American MegaTrend Inc) where you can set your irq priority on the slot you put your nic card on. I have my set at irq 10(my nic card's irq number) at slot 2(this is the slot I put my nic card on). The results of the above? I am getting anywhere from 3.0 to 7 mbps when testing at different speed test servers and 200 to 300 kbps up consistently.
A special thanks go out to Philip for coming up SG TCP Optimizer, the SG tweaking forum, and everyone else that make SG possible. SpeedGuide is like a big family of geeks and I am very proud to be a part of the geek family:) I also played with my dns servers and one(xx.xx.xxx.32) gives me better speeds and pings than the other two. I'm not having packet loss(which is cause by the cable or phone company), I'm not having high pings(which is cause by the time of day you're using the net), or slow connection speeds. Here's a speed test I took at 2:46PM CDT when everyone else is in school or at work here in Topeka, Ks:
** Speed 3102(down)/214(up) kbps **
(At least 62 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
I usually get between 62 to 63 times faster than a 56K consistently. I'm going to leave well enough, surf on, and be happy with my speeds. Too bad I can't afford anything faster, but cox doesn't have a faster speed package. So 3000/256 is the only speed package you can get in my area. Thanks for the help, guys, and thank for this website!! It rocks!!! And I have overclocked my computer at 1.49 GHz from 1.33 GHz and I told the DSLR overclocking and modding forum that I just overclocked my computer at 149 MHz and they said, "Leave it at 1.33 GHz, the tech won't help you." I told them, "The bank doesn't care what you do with the computer, the manufacturer doesn't care what you do with the computer, as long as you pay the bank the monthly fee, you can do whatever you want with the computer." But they still insist to leave it at 1.33 GHz and my cpu temperature, etc., works fine at 149 MHz. That's the last time I ever going to use DSLR. I use the RR forum there, the line quality test, the diary, and the reviews, but I'm not going to use the overclocking or tweaking forum there.
